Can you by searching find God?
Here
is a question that was asked as far back as the earliest Scriptures in
the book of Job, Chapter 11, vs. 7. You might say of the Bible, what
good is a book that old anyway, could it possibly be relevant in this
day and age? Does it have any modern value?
In nearly every motel and hotel across our great country and in 187
countries and 82 languages around the world, this book is freely and
lovingly made available by a team of dedicated people known as The
Gideons.
Since the
Gideon organization began in 1899 (1911 in Canada) there have been
literally thousands upon thousands of recorded miracles of transformed
lives, foiled suicides, healed relationships as well as those who were
simply comforted or encouraged as a result of the changing power found
through the Bible.
When
one looks into the opening pages of a Bible printed by the Gideons, you
will find a summary of what these men and women of God have learned and
experienced about the power of this book. It is as follows...
“THIS
BOOK REVEALS THE MIND OF GOD, the state of man, the way of salvation,
the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers.
ITS DOCTRINES ARE HOLY, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable.
READ
IT TO BE WISE, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It
contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer
you.
IT IS THE
TRAVELLER’S MAP, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the
soldier’s sword, and the Christian’s charter. Here, too, heaven is
opened, and the gates of hell disclosed.
CHRIST IS ITS GRAND SUBJECT, our good its design, and the glory of God its end.
IT
SHOULD FILL THE MEMORY, rule the heart, and guide the feet. Read it
slowly, frequently, prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of
glory, and a river of pleasure.
IT
IS GIVEN YOU in life, will be opened at the judgement, and be
remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility, will reward
the greatest labour, and condemn all who trifle with its sacred
contents.
OWNED, IT IS RICHES; studied, it is wisdom; trusted, it is salvation; loved, it is character; and obeyed, it is power.”
There was once a time that I foolishly spoke out against this Book
because I could not understand it. Years later, after I had responded
to God’s call upon my own life, I also became a Gideon, spending much
of my time delivering thousands of Bibles to people across the country
and have enjoyed meeting some of the most wonderful folks in my
travels. As with any serious Christian, I too have many personal
stories of miracles and impossible prayers answered and a knowledge of
His loving relationship with me. Then the answer to the question is
emphatically, “YES, God can be found if you are willing to search for
Him.”
God tells us in the Bible, “ And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
