Excelling
with Dyslexia is
a 30 page
ebook derived from the book Child of the Land
that details
my experience with this poorly understood and frustrating
condition. What started out as a curse, in the end, became a benefit to
me helping me through many major endeavours in life. This ebook
explains what it is like to struggle with a learning
disability that no one understands, how to use it to your advantage
and go on to excel.Excerpts from the book. There
comes a day in everyone’s peaceful childhood that Mother says to you,
“You’re a big boy now, and guess what, by this fall you are going to be
able to go to school!” The first question I asked was, “Did Tarzan go
to school?” to which Mother must answer, “Yes, of course, dear. How did
you think he got so smart?” At that point, although you are only five
years old, you have a sense that these last bright months of summer may
be the only days of freedom you have left for a very long time.My folks provided very well for me before school began, but I suddenly discovered that I was at a great disadvantage, this being that I was too small and dreadfully ill-equipped to run away from home before school began. So, here I was, stuck with the first great dilemma of my life. Shall I go to school and get smart like Tarzan, or should I stay home and pursue a career as a vagabond? Mother looked at me sternly, glanced at the punishing strap hanging on the wall and quietly informed me that it would be in my best interest to get an education. Ok then, that’s it, my mind is made up. An education it is! Whew, school didn’t look so terrible after all, and of course, it was still several carefree months away with much exploration to be done in the meantime. The one notable thing that characterized each career was that very quickly, my supervisors realized that I could work very well on my own. Being dyslexic makes working with others in close situations difficult, but more importantly, develops a mind that can work even better, independently. Furthermore, my mind and heart seemed to have the natural ability to discern the gifts and abilities of others and being capable of managing people fairly and efficiently. These were the positive results of what began as a devastating handicap, misunderstood by my teachers and parents. Today, looking back, I see that for every apparent disability we might have, we can also find within us a positive gift to compensate for it. If you have suffered from a setback such as this, may the following words be of encouragement to you. Capitalize on your positive gifts and understand that you are not a dummy. You were simply created a little different. You are not below average, you are above average. You are not a failure, you’re a winner, and if someone calls you a dummy, that makes them a liar. You are not a dummy, you are simply misunderstood. This ebook is, in itself, an excerpt from my book entitled CHILD OF THE LAND. Once a reader learns that the author has struggled with a learning / reading disabilty, the whole book of adventure and travel will be an encouragement. The Chapter that speaks directly about dyslexia is the content of this ebook and is entitled Backward brain waves in the main book. ![]() ![]() It is my hope that you the reader will not only find my book (s) fun and humorous to read but also informative and encouraging.
