![]() Building inspector to test your home
One could hardly consider God in any other role but as a full
time loving spiritual Father and constructor of all things eternal. The
Bible does, however, give us a clear indication that God Himself is
also a local and national building inspector! You might wonder at this
extra vocational activity. Does He need the extra money or is it just
that He still likes to keep His hand in carpentry and creation? Throughout the Bible our bodies are referred to as our tent, our habitation or our earthly home, “For you are God’s field, you are God’s building” (1 Corinthians 3:9). As we learn and grow in this world, we often absorb ideas and half truths that are not spiritually sound, much like using flawed or poor grade construction material, to build our lives upon. Any knowledgeable builder will be quick to inform you that the most critical area of a structure is its foundation, so using faulty material (half truths) and poor construction methods (worldly thinking) will have disastrous consequences. When the Divine building inspector is in your neighbourhood you may experience some personal storms, heart wrenching trials or emotional quakes as the storms of life beat upon your house to test the soundness of your spiritual foundation! Will it stand or will it fall? Are you built upon the Rock or on loose sand? Would you pass an inspection today? God inspects our lives and tests us to ultimately prepare us for the judgment day, when we will ultimately be required to give an account for our lives. God wisely says in the Bible that: “Whoever comes to Me and hears My sayings and does them, is like a person building their house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard My Word and did nothing is like a person who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.” (See the book of Luke, 6:47 ➝) Now God is not only your local building inspector but carries the distinction of being a national building inspector as well. Throughout the ages He has tested the nations, causing some to fall so that we ourselves may know and understand upon what foundation our country is established. When wars or natural disasters assault our land or a flood of ungodly teaching is thrust upon our population and our educational system, we must understand that we are being tested. Are we, here in Canada, ready to be tested? Could we stand being tested against the truth of God as Jesus Christ taught us? “For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:11). Until death, of course, God teaches that it is never too late to rebuild. He lovingly teaches us that: “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. (This is His testing.) Therefore, be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with Me” (Revelation 3:19 -20). “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world and not according to Christ.” (Colossians 2:6 ➝) Doug Greenfield.
